FAQ's
Can we come and see the campers before booking?
Of course you can, you can even climb in and have a good poke around to see which one will suit you best. Give us a call beforehand just to make sure we have at least one available for you to have a nose around!
How do I book?
You have choice! You can book by phone by calling 0800 9709147 and paying your deposit by debit or credit card. Alternatively you can book online via our website www.classiccampervanhire.co.uk. And of course, you can come right on into the office and do it the old fashioned way and book in person!
What are your hours of business?
Officially or unofficially? Officially we are open from 8.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 1.00pm on Saturdays, however, Merv is usually beavering away long into the night in the workshop, so you can always try outside of these hours!
What time is pick up and drop off?
During high season you can pick up your camper van after 2pm and drop off if by 10am. This ensures we have enough time to get the campers cleaned out and checked over so that the next people to use them enjoy the same high standard that you experienced. If your camper is not going out again the same day, we can be more flexible on drop off times.
What do we need to bring with us?
Simply bedding, clothing and food! We can provide bedding and food hampers (both basic and luxury) if you wish, these will incur extra charges.
Can we bring our dog?
For an extra £2.50 per dog per night, you can bring your best friend along with you on your holiday!
Are the campers no-smoking?
Yes. All of our lovely campers are non-smoking, it's not too far to hop outside for a quick smoke though!!
How many people can sleep in the vans?
Most of our campers sleep 4 people (adults) in both double beds and bunk beds. They all come with drive-away style awnings which sleep an additional 2 people in the inner tent. As each van is slightly different, check out our meet the vans page for specific sleeping arrangements.
Are the campers difficult to drive?
Nah! By the time you reach the end of the road, you'll be an expert. We have both left hookers and right hookers, so you do have a choice if you're worried about a left hand drive. It is a totally different driving experience however, so think along the lines of real back to basics driving and no power steering! You might hop into the wrong side of the camper a couple of times if you're driving a leftie (pretend to be looking for something in the glove box - works every time), and you might open the window instead of changing gear for the first couple of gear changes (again, complain it's too hot!)
Who can drive the campervans?
Anyone over the age of 25 years old who has held a full UK driving licence for 2 years can drive all of our vans. Ruby however is insured to take drivers over the age of 21yrs who again have held a full licence for 2 years or more. There may be a small insurance supplement if you have had bans or specific convictions in the past, we will advise you of this at the time of booking. The main driver is included in the hire cost, up to 3 extra drivers can be added at just £4.00 per person per day/part day.
What is included in the cost of hire?
Full comprehensive main driver insurance, full RAC cover, unlimited mileage (throughout Devon, Cornwall & Somerset), drive-away style awning, picnic table and chairs, all cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and equipment, cooking gas, plus tea & coffee and lots of other little extras. A full inventory list is included in the camper vans so if it's on the list, it's in there somewhere (you may need to hunt around to find what you're looking for!)
Are our belongings covered by the insurance?
No. Our insurance covers the camper and not it's contents. We advise you to take up your own travel insurance as you would for any other holiday.
What type of fuel do the campers use?
All of our camper vans use unleaded fuel. It's worth checking which side of the van the filler cap is on before you leave to save faffing around later in the petrol station! We leave enough fuel in the tank to get you to the nearest petrol station (just round the corner) and ask that you bring it back as empty as possible.
What happens if we break down or have a problem with the campervan?
In the unlikely event that you do breakdown, you can be safe in the knowledge that your camper van hire includes full RAC cover, so they should be your first port of call. We do ask that you call us if you do have a problem, as it may be something simple we can talk you (or the RAC) through over the phone. We do provide essential service items for the RAC, just in case they need them. In the unlikely event that the RAC can't get you going again, we aim to have you back on the road in a new campervan as soon as possible.
Can we leave our car with you?
Of course! Our car park is locked overnight, although you do leave your vehicle at your own risk. While you are away, we can wash and valet your own car for you, for £40.00.
Can you pick us up from the station/airport?
We can certainly organise a taxi for you or give you the details for the bus route, unfortunately due to our location we'd have to charge you £50 each way, which works out expensive for you (although we can do it on request).
Can you stock the fridge for us before we arrive?
Yes! Tavistock won food town of the year a couple of years ago, so we can stock you up with some amazing produce should you wish. We can also get the basics together for you if you're on more of a budget. Let us know what you want, or let us surprise you. You decide! (Items charged at cost plus £5.00 service charge)
Can you organise items for special occasions?
Uh huh. Champers, chocolates, fresh flowers, romantic picnics, impressive BBQ packs...you name it, we can do it!
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Oh yes. We have £10, £20, £50 and £100 denominations which can be spent on camper van hire or treasure hunt days.
